When ?

The Essex International Jamboree 2008 is being held from Saturday 26th July to Saturday 2nd August 2008.
Where ?
The camp will be held at Devereux Farm just outside of Kirby-Le-Soken in the North-East corner of Essex, which is in the South-East of England.

Facilities
At the campsite there will be a market square which will offer cafes, shops, bank, post office and telephones and a medical centre. There will be no facilities for recharging mobile phones.

What equipment do I need to bring ?

All groups must bring their own equipment. There will be no indoor accomodation and participants are expected to camp under canvas.
Cooking can only be done on portable stoves. No wood fires or barbecues are allowed. Bottled gas will be available to buy on site.
Heavy equipment can be sent to the camp earlier by arrangement at the participants expense. Generators are not permissible and there will be no electricity generally available.
Toilets are provided but each group should provide their own washing facilities. There will be limited shower services. Participants should bring their own personal camping equipment to suit all weathers. Facilities will be available for members with special needs.
Overseas participants may be able to borrow camping equipment or arrange to stay for longer in the area.

What about insurance ?

Groups and participants are responsible for their own personal and travel insurance.
Overseas groups must also arrange their own medical cover.
What is the climate like ?

The typical climate for July and August is warm and sunny, but it can be rainy and chilly so proper rainwear and warm clothes are also needed. The day temperature is usually between 18 – 25oC.
What can we do with the Badge?  UK Scouts Groups may wear the badge
above the left hand pocket for the next 12
months.
UK Guide Groups may wear the badge on
the Gilet or uniform top.
International Contingents may wear the
badge in accordance with the rules of their
Association.
What do we do on arrival? 
Please go straight to your Sub Camp and
register with your Sub Camp Team. You
will need to exchange you Group’s Health
Forms for their Jamboree passes. If there
is any missing information or money owing
then your Sub Camp team will direct you to
the help desk.

Girguiding UK - A/A Form
Please complete you’re A/A form within the
recommended time frame. The host Camp
Advisor is Mrs Mavis Burton, Moel Siabod,
2 Elm Avenue, Heybridge, Essex. CM9 4NT.
Please put your booking reference on the top
right hand corner of your form and ensure
that you enclose a stamped addressed
envelope for the return of your permission
slip.
The Scout Association - Nights Away
Please send your Nights Away Notification
to your home DC at least 7 days before the
start of the Jamboree.

Who ?

Members of the Associations from age 10 up to the 18th birthday may attend with their leaders.
Activities

During the week, all groups will have a chance to take part in a variety of olympic themed activities including water activities, craft and a variety of land activities. In the evening the market square will offer a busy atmosphere of live entertainments from around the globe complimented by a selection of eating areas to suit all tastes.
Every young person taking part in activities at
the Jamboree will need to have a permission
form signed by their parent/guardian. The form

How many ?
7000 Scouts and Guides from all over the world will be participating in this camp.
How much does is cost ?

The camp fee for Young People or Leaders wishing to take part in the full range of activities is £125 per person.
A reduced fee of £50 is available to adult leaders not wishing to take part on any activities.
A reduced fee of £20 is available to Leaders of participating groups who are also willing to take on a suitable staff role during the event
All above fees include a badge, scarf, site fees and entertainments
All above fees do not include catering
A non-refundable deposit of £30 per person is required. To avoid disappointment please ensure that your booking form and deposits are sent to the registrar soon.

Can I go as a staff member ?
Yes, if you are 16 or over, you can apply to be a member of staff.

How do i place an order with the Food Warehouse? 
Complete the order form electronically and
send it to . We would prefer electronic orders, but
realise this is not always easy, therefore, if
you need to send in your order on paper by

shopping list.
